The Ants have arrived!!!

"Introducing the ants to their new home" (aka dumping them in the gel farm).

Well, it only took 4 months, but the ants FINALLY arrived. "Uncle Sally and Uncle Wally" gave him this ant farm for his birthday in May and we sent off for the ants like the next week. They apparently can only be shipped when the avg daily temp falls between a certain range (for obvious reasons). We only had a few casualites during shipping and they seem to like their new green gel home. Carson (who has bright orange lips from an orange poscicle he had after dinner) is really interested and had tons of questions (shocking, I know!). The "ant gel colony" came with this little book about ants that we read...pretty interesting actually. They are already running around in there...should be fun to watch.

Kenny looks pretty interested, too! I love the orange lips! This is going to be GREAT seeing new pics more often. Give the boys kisses from Aunt Memmy.

Amy, you may or may not know this, but I had an ant farm when I was just a little bit older than Carson! It was made out of plastic, and I had sand in it. I collected the big harvester ants that were in our yard at Mom and Dad's house in Pleasanton, and I kept them fed with little bits of bread dipped in honey. I found out that you couldn't mix ants from different colonies, because they would attack each other. I still have a letter that I sent to Mom and Dad when I was at summer camp, asking them to bring my ants when they came to get me, or else "if you don't, they'll die!" I'm glad to see another member of our family has a curiousity to match my own! Give him (and Collier) a big hug for both Cheryl and myself. We'll be in touch.
