Gigi's Fun Birthday Surprise

Last Friday night we drove to Leona, TX to surprise Gigi (Kenny's mom) and eat at the "Leona General Store and Steakhouse" (more about that later) for her birthday. Since her birthday falls so close after Christmas, Gigi rarely gets to spend her birthday with any of us. We decided that we would go down, surprise her and pick up the dogs (that they kept for us while we were in Santa Fe). We got a plan worked out with Pawpaw, who I think really liked helping out with the surprise, and he got Harold and Linda (good family friends of theirs) involved so she would not suspect a thing. Well, funny thing happened...a transformer blew in the small town of Leona that night and power was out in the entire city when we arrived for the surprise. When we arrived at the restaurant (which we had trouble finding b/c it was SO dark), they were standing on the porch. We literally walked right up to her before she realized it was us. She was very surprised and excited. About 15 minutes later, Karen, Steve and the kids arrived for "surprise round 2". We had a GREAT meal...the steaks were huge and delicious(I ordered their smallest steak which was 10 oz and Kenny and I could have shared it)...probably the best steak I have had in a very long time. This restaurant is in the middle of nowhere and is a small town general store, except on Thurs, Fri and Sat night, when it becomes a steakhouse. If ever in the Leona area, definitely check it out! We finished the meal off with a double fudge chocolate cake from Celebrity bakery - yum! We had a very fun evening and I think Gigi had a great birthday.

Surprise Gigi!

The whole crew!

Collier got a taste of a cracker for the first time. He would put it in his mouth and suck on it, then make this horrible face...then do it again! Really funny. I love this picture because if you look really close, you can see his two brand new chompers on the bottom.
