Bo, one of our four legged children, sustained a back injury on Saturday afternoon as we were all leaving to go to Carson's T-ball game. We think he jumped off the patio couch (his favorite outside sleeping spot) and landed just wrong. Kenny rushed him to the Emergency Vet clinic near our house and they diagnosed him with a probable slipped disc in his back at the C6-C7 level. It has been a LONG few days with him. He has been in A LOT of pain, which I think we finally have under control. He is on so many pain meds, muscle relaxers, steroids, doggy Valium for anxiety, etc...I don't think he knows which end is up right now! We have been to the vet 4 times since it happened and had Paige, a friend who is a vet, come by last night for another opinion. He is still not able to walk or hold his weight up, especially on his right side, which is a little discouraging. We are praying that with time and enough meds (steroids) he will get better. It is really tough seeing him like this. Luckily, Carson went to his grandparents for the week, so we have had a little extra time. Kenny and I are taking turns taking care of him at night...the nights are really hard for him. We made a little doggy gurney (Aunt Nan's brilliant idea!) that we are calling the "Bo Mobile" out of the bottom half of their crate. Kenny and I are getting pretty good at transporting him around, lifting him in and out to go potty and repositioning him...but we are so sore...he weighs 60 pounds! As crazy as these dogs make me most of the time, the idea of losing him is really hard to thinks about. If he does not begin improving by Saturday, we are going to have to make some tough decisions. Back surgery with a Vet Neurosurgeon (you don't even want to know what that would cost) is an option, but the general consensus from everyone we have talked to is that it would be extremely tough on him (lots of pain, recovery, rehab, etc...) and not necessarily guaranteed to be successful. Please keep BoBo in your prayers this week...
